Runway Racer
Race airliners and jets around airport runways at 300 mph, with no flying.
Runway Racer is an arcade racer for the browser. The planes race on airport runways and taxiways, but they never take off.
The five aircraft are a business jet, a cargo prop, a delta fighter, a four-engine wide-body, and a pylon racer. Each has its own speed, acceleration, handling, and weight. Six planes start each race.
Three airport circuits go from easy to hard. Dusk Hub International has wide runways and a taxiway chicane. Midnight Cargo Terminal is a figure eight with a runway crossing and a hangar tunnel. Aurora Polar Field has hairpins and black ice under the northern lights.
Drifts and slipstream fill the afterburner meter. Crosswind fans, cones, debris, hydraulic slicks, and baggage tugs get in the way.
Grand Prix runs all three circuits for points. Quick Race runs one circuit. Time Trial races your best lap as a ghost.
The game uses three.js for 3D. The aircraft and runway markings are procedural. A build script generates textures, skylines, and portraits with OpenAI, and voices, sound effects, and music with ElevenLabs. Each generated asset has a procedural fallback.
The race simulation runs without a browser. Unit tests and a headless six-plane race check every circuit. Browser tests play the build on a desktop and on a touch phone. On a device that draws black frames, a watchdog lowers the graphics quality.
Runway Racer installs as a PWA and plays offline.
